Leonardo S.p.A. takes part to the Marine Hazard project through the Electronic division having among its peculiarities, a tradition lasting several decades in the field of sensors and signal processing for underwater acoustics. Leonardo S.p.A. will deal with the discovery and classification of underwater hydrothermal vents by producing 3D acoustic images. The role played by Leonardo in the Marine Hazard project is, therefore, to provide the latest generation technologies especially tailored for this particular field of oceanic explorations. Such technologies consist either of electronic systems for transmitting and receiving high frequency ultrasonic signals, or in sophisticated digital signal processing.
